The Multiple Choice Part
The test is computer based, using a touch screen to answer the questions.
You will be asked 50 multiple choice questions. You need to answer 43 questions correctly to pass this part.
You will be shown one question at a time on the screen, with several possible answers. Some questions require only one answer, others will require more than one answer. For this reason it is important that you read the question thoroughly.
You are able to move back and forth between questions, and "Flag" the answers you may not be sure of. This allows you to quickly re visit questions you were not sure of at the end of the multiple choice part.
You will also be given a "Case study" (a scenario) to study and will be asked a series of questions relating to the scenario.
Once you have completed the Multiple choice part, you will have the option to take a short break of up to 3 minutes before the Hazard Perception part starts.
The Hazard Perception Part
Before the Hazard Perception test starts, you will be shown an introductory video to demonstrate the system to you.
You will be shown 14, one minute video clips that include one developing hazard in all but one. This video clip will contain two developing hazards. You will not know which clip will include the two devloping hazards.
A developing hazard is defined as anything that would result in you having to take some sort of action, ie slowing down, stopping or steering to avoid.
How do you score on the Hazard Perception Test?
The sooner you see a hazard developing, the higher the score.
You can score a maximum of five points per video clip, except on the video clip containing the two hazards, on this clip you can score a maximum of 10 points.
To get a high score, you need to respond and "click the mouse button" as soon as the hazard starts to develope.
If you click repeatedly or in any fom of pattern during a clip, you will recieve a warning that you will score zero for that particular video clip.
